Youth Programs

Exchange Programs and Summer Camp

Youth friendship and leadership exchange programs between teens and young adults in Japan and the United States.

2025 Friendship Summer Youth Exchange Program

Friendship 2025 continues this year!  For over twenty years, we have led youth exchange programs between the US and Japan. Our exchanges are life changing experiences for youth as they develop an increased understanding of our two cultures.  Goals of our program goals include making lifelong friendships, understanding our cultural similarities and differences, developing leadership and communication skills.  We  look forward to our program this summer!  Please let us know if you would like to apply!

Summer Language and Activities Camp

Summer is an important time in learning Japanese for young people.  If you attend Nihongo language school, a summer recess can cause you to forget many of the things your learned during the school year.  On the other hand, fun summer activities might be the catalyst to move you to learn the language.  Our summer language and activities program merges the two so that you can have fun while practicing the lessons you have learned previously.  If you are a beginner and want to learn Nihongo, the Japanese activities session would serve as a great introduction and preparation for language lessons in the fall.  Let us know if you are interested!  We would be thrilled to have your join our community!

Adult Programs

Goodwill and Study Programs

Goodwill exchanges between the US and Japan, professional and study programs, guest speakers and workshops.

Pasadena-Mishima Delegations

Since 1957, Pasadena and Mishima have enjoyed a wonderful Sister Cities relationship.  And every five years, we have always made efforts to celebrate these special ties by hosting visits between the citizens of our cities.  There is nothing more satisfying than making friends and sharing time with friends from across the Pacific.  For the last two decades, we have successfully planned and coordinated these goodwill exchanges both to and from Japan for our residents and civic leaders.  2022 marked the 65th Anniversary of the Pasadena-Mishima Sister City relationship.  Stayed tuned for future programs and travel to Mishima in the near future!

Toyo University Regional Studies Tours

Every winter, third year students from the Toyo University Regional Studies Department have visited Southern California to learn about the Japanese American community.  In addition to arranging all lodging, meals and transportation, we have planned and coordinated the entire schedule of their studies tour by arranging meetings with community leaders and visits to college campuses and important community locations.  We also coordinate day-long interactions between Toyo and local university students.

Nirayama High School Class Trip

Beginning in 2009, we have planned and coordinated the annual Shugaku Ryoko (Class Trip) to Pasadena for second year Nirayama High School students.  During their visits, students visit the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, the California Science Museum, the Space Shuttle Endeavor, UCLA, and spend an overnight program with Pasadena Polytechnical School.  The week is capped with a fun day at Universal Studios which includes an on-site technical program.
